Robert De Niro stirred more controversy during a recent appearance on The View by criticizing the previous President and conservative principles harshly and was muted twice.
The 80-year-old actor threatened to bring catastrophic consequences to the nation if Trump were to be re-elected, drawing comparisons between him and the notorious tyrants Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. The producers of the show twice had to muffle De Niro due to the intensity of his remarks; he even apologized for the language he used before venting.
What was said by Jesse Watters?
In response to De Niro’s rant, Fox News anchor Jesse Watters took a strong stance, charging the seasoned actor with having “completely lost his mind” in his older years. With a caustic remark that “most Democrats don’t even know who that is—they probably think he’s an appetizer at an Italian restaurant,” Watters rejected the comparison drawing between Trump and Mussolini.
Watters said, “I thought when people get older, they find peace,” in response to De Niro’s ongoing outrage. I aspire to be enjoying peace and quiet when I’m De Niro’s age, but not De Niro. He’s completely insane.
Additionally, Watters poked fun at De Niro’s other roles, bringing up the well-known part the actor played in the 1980 movie Raging Bull. After watching excerpts of De Niro’s subdued tirades, he said, “Raging Bull—kind of liked the movie better.”
De Niro will not alter
During his appearance on The View, De Niro reiterated his contempt for conservatives without holding back. He declared, “Those who see and regret will be those who support that kind of thing with anger and hate.””
With celebrities like Watters ready to attack what they perceive to be out-of-touch elites, the newest conflict between De Niro and conservative ideals underscores the continuous rift between Hollywood and conservative media.
