Celine Dion got paid $0 for her performance at the 2024 Summer Paris Olympics – and here’s why.Céline Dion and Lady Gaga are two of the most iconic and influential figures in contemporary music, each known for their distinctive styles and powerful performances. Despite their different musical genres, both artists have achieved global recognition and success, becoming beloved figures in pop culture.
Céline Dion, a Canadian singer, is renowned for her incredible vocal range and emotional ballads. Her career, spanning several decades, has been marked by numerous hits, including “My Heart Will Go On,” “The Power of Love,” and “Because You Loved Me.” Dion’s voice is characterized by its clarity and power, often conveying deep emotion and vulnerability. Her music, which blends pop, rock, and classical elements, has earned her a dedicated fan base worldwide. Beyond her musical talents, Dion is also known for her warm personality and resilience, particularly in the face of personal challenges, such as the loss of her husband, René Angélil. Her work has not only garnered critical acclaim but has also made her a symbol of strength and perseverance.
Lady Gaga, on the other hand, is known for her eclectic style and boundary-pushing artistry. Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, Gaga rose to fame with her debut album, “The Fame,” which included hits like “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” Her music often combines pop with elements of electronic, dance, and rock, and she is celebrated for her bold and often provocative performances. Gaga’s influence extends beyond music into fashion and acting, with standout roles in films like “A Star Is Born,” for which she won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Known for her advocacy on issues like mental health and LGBTQ+ rights, Gaga uses her platform to promote inclusivity and acceptance, making her a powerful voice for change.
On 26 July, both Gaga and Dion performed in the Opening Ceremony, in Paris. It was reported prior to the performance that Celine Dion would be paid a large sum of $2 million for only “one song”.
“They’re paying a ton of money. Ridiculous amount.”
However, a spokesperson has come forward, saying;“Contrary to some media reports, the performers at the Paris 2024 Games ceremonies will not receive a fee for their performance. Their decision to perform under these conditions reflects their desire to be part of a historic event for France and for the world of sports.”
Taking to X, Dion shared:
“I’m honored to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities!” she said. “Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance. All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart is with you! – Celine xx…”
