A prominent NFL insider has provided a significant update on CeeDee Lamb’s situation with the Dallas Cowboys amid the star wide receiver’s contract holdout.
CeeDee Lamb is entering his rookie contract’s fifth and final year and is eyeing a lucrative payday ahead of Week 1. The lack of an extension up to this point has become concerning for some Cowboys fans, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided a promising update on the Lamb front.
Speaking on NFL Live, Schefter stated that “it would be a huge upset” if Lamb is not with the Cowboys come Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. Schefter added the deal is “going to get done”, before the regular season.
This should be a giant sigh of relief for Cowboys fans, considering what went down just last week. Dallas owner Jerry Jones caused a stir when he told reporters that he felt no “urgency” to complete an extension with Lamb, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

Seeing how the wide receiver market has played out this year, it’s a foregone conclusion that CeeDee Lamb will land well over $100 million on his next deal. Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings signed a record-setting four-year deal worth $140 million in June, and Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions agreed to a four-year pact worth $120.01 million.
The Cowboys meet the Browns on Sept. 9 in a game that will also mark Tom Brady’s debut as an NFL analyst for FOX Sports.
Jones promised back in January that his team would go “all-in” this offseason. That hasn’t bee the case, but he would at least semi-redeem himself by extending Lamb long-term.
