Taylor Swift’s mother has issued a stern warning to those labeling her daughter a ‘distractor’ in recent sports controversies, emphasizing that such claims are deeply misguided and rooted in jealousy.
The controversy began when social media users, particularly fans of the Kansas City Chiefs, started discussing the so-called “Taylor Swift curse.” This notion emerged after the pop star’s appearances at Chiefs games, with some suggesting that her presence was somehow affecting the team’s performance.
Initially, the narrative was that Travis Kelce, the Chiefs’ tight end, played better with Swift in attendance, but this quickly shifted to blaming her for any subsequent losses.
Swift’s devoted fans, known as Swifties, have been vocal in defending the singer, arguing that blaming a woman for the performance of professional athletes is not only unfair but also deeply misogynistic.
They point out that it’s absurd to attribute a sports team’s performance to a celebrity’s presence, questioning why Swift is being compared to Yoko Ono, the figure often wrongly blamed for the breakup of The Beatles.
One Twitter user aptly noted, “When did Taylor Swift start playing offense in the NFL? And are we still blaming Yoko Ono for The Beatles’ breakup? It was sexist and racist then, and it’s still sexist today.
