Dan was the centre of a multi-pronged complaint which led network bosses to bring in investigators.
But the father-of-three was “completely exonerated” by the probe earlier this year.
Now Dan – a committed Christian – has broken his silence for the first time, saying he’s “not that person”.
Speaking to the Telegraph, he said: “I haven’t really talked about it, but that was fully investigated and everything was completely incorrect and I was entirely vindicated by an independent inquiry
“So yeah, that’s not nice, but you hold on to what you know the truth is and ultimately the truth is the important thing.
“I know I’m not that person, so… And yeah there’s days you worry about that but also you know that that’s a picture you don’t recognise, and nobody you’ve ever worked with recognises.”
The complaint was made from a colleague working in the media industry.
An investigator previously said of the claims: “There is a lack of evidence to support allegations.”
A Channel 5 spokesman previously said: “ITN commissioned an independent external expert to investigate these allegations but none were upheld.”
While a spokesman for ITN said: “We take such claims incredibly seriously. To ensure fairness and impartiality, we appointed an independent external consultant and they have concluded their investigation.
“Given our ongoing duty of care, we won’t be commenting further.”
Dan, 47, hosted BBC Breakfast from 2016 until his departure in 2022.
During his tenure he anchored with former host Louise Minchin as well as Sally Nugent.
