Either you completely forgot about this fact, or it hasn’t left your mind, but remember when Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Jackson were married? The pair were married from 1994 to 1996, and now, Riley Keough revealed what it was like to have the King of Pop as a stepdad.
During a rare appearance on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna on Oct. 10 via AOL, Keough talked about Presley’s new memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown: A Memoir, and what life was like with Jackson as her stepdad. (And how her nickname for him was “Mimi! How cute!)
“I mean, my point of view – I understand that my life was not normal, but for me, it just felt normal,” she said. “In hindsight, I understand that it was a big thing of them together, but it felt very normal. They lived together and would take me to school and, you know, just the regular, married stuff.”
That’s quite touching when you think about it, and this is one of only a couple of times Keough has talked about her late, former stepdad publicly. The last time was back in 2017 in a rare interview with T, The New York Times Magazine when she recalled what life was like with him, growing up splitting her time between Graceland and his Neverland Ranch.
“I loved him,” she said. “There were toys everywhere, animals everywhere, kids everywhere. It was like being at Disneyland all day.”
Per People, Keough also wrote about her love for Jackson, saying, “He was an amazing person and I am lucky to have gotten as close to him as I did and to have had the many experiences and years that we had together. I desperately hope that he can be relieved from his pain, pressure and turmoil now. He deserves to be free from all of that and I hope he is in a better place or will be.”
For those who don’t know, Presley and Jackson met back in 1970, but later reconnected in a romantic way in the early 1990s, despite Presley still being married to Danny Keough. They eloped in May 1994, but by Dec 1995, they had separated. They divorced in early 1996, but remained friends afterward.
